A listed building in Berlin-Zehlendorf is undergoing comprehensive renovation. As part of this process, the attic will be converted in accordance with heritage preservation standards, and an elevator will be added.
In addition to the façade and interior restoration measures — developed in coordination with restoration specialists — particular attention was given to the attic conversion. The goal was to integrate the new living spaces carefully into the existing structure while creating two apartments with high spatial quality and contemporary standards.
To preserve the external appearance of the mansard roofs, a central patio was carved into each attic unit. This patio provides natural light to the living areas and creates a private outdoor space, shielded from urban life, towards which all main living spaces are oriented.
To further emphasize the typology of a private house within a multi-family building, future residents will first enter the patio directly from the staircase. Only from this outdoor space do they access their respective apartments.
